The United States and Iran exchange new strikes despite the ceasefire

Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated again after a series of strikes and counter-strikes over the weekend, as negotiations aimed at ending three months of conflict continue with difficulty.

According to the US military command, American forces conducted strikes against several Iranian military installations on the Gulf coast. Washington claims to have targeted and destroyed Iranian air defense systems, a ground control station, and two attack drones.

The US military stated that this operation was a response to "aggressive actions" by Iran, including the downing of a US MQ-1 drone that, according to Washington, was operating in international airspace. US officials asserted that the targeted equipment posed a threat to ships operating in the region's waters.

In retaliation, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced it had struck an airbase used by US forces. Iranian authorities did not specify the exact location of the facility.

Meanwhile, Kuwait reported that its air defense systems had intercepted several missiles and drones. Warning sirens sounded in various parts of the country, which hosts significant US military installations.

These new exchanges come despite the ceasefire established at the beginning of April. Since it came into effect, Washington and Tehran have repeatedly accused each other of violations, carrying out occasional limited strikes while continuing diplomatic discussions aimed at a more lasting agreement.

Negotiations remain fragile, and no major progress has been announced so far. Persistent tensions continue to fuel concerns about maritime security in the Gulf and the stability of the entire region.
