Weather: Exceptionally hot this Monday with temperatures up to 35°C and blazing sunshine

The heat continues to intensify across France this Monday under the influence of a powerful anticyclone. Sunshine prevails throughout the day, with temperatures exceeding 30°C across almost the entire country. This situation, remarkable for the end of May, puts many regions well above seasonal averages.

The heat will be most intense in the west and southwest, with highs of 32 to 35°C expected between Brittany, the Pays de la Loire, Aquitaine, and Lot-et-Garonne. Cities like Rennes, Nantes, Bordeaux, and Agen could see temperatures approach record highs for this time of year. Further north, a northeasterly wind will slightly limit the temperature rise, with highs around 30°C between Lille and the Ardennes.

In Occitanie, the Autan wind will begin to strengthen with gusts reaching 60 km/h locally. In the mountains, the risk of thunderstorms will remain limited compared to Sunday, particularly in the Pyrenees and the southern Alps.

Caution is advised in the face of this early heat. The UV index will reach very high levels, between 7 and 9, with the sun being particularly intense at midday. It is recommended to avoid prolonged exertion in direct sunlight, to stay well hydrated, and to remain vigilant on beaches where the difference between the very hot air and the still-cool sea can cause a risk of cold water shock.
