Bank transfers: be aware of potential delays during the holiday season

As Christmas approaches, bank transfers may experience delays. European interbank settlement systems do not operate continuously: they are closed on weekends and certain public holidays, notably December 25th and 26th. As a direct consequence, standard transfers made on or just before these dates may be processed with a delay of several days.

Which transfers are affected?

Only standard interbank transfers are affected by these temporary closures. Conversely, instant transfers (such as the service) are not affected. A standard bank transfer made on December 24th, for example, might not reach its recipient until December 29th, due to the shutdown of clearing systems during the holidays. To avoid unpleasant surprises, it's advisable to schedule large payments in advance, such as salaries, rent, or bills, or to opt for an instant transfer in case of emergency.
