Saint-Denis: Ride-hailing driver stabbed after a terrible misunderstanding

A ride-hailing driver was the victim of a knife attack on Saturday, September 5th in Aulnay-sous-Bois, Seine- Saint-Denis . The driver, who worked for the Bolt platform, was picking up a client near the O'Parinor shopping center when he was allegedly targeted by her ex-partner.

According to initial information gathered from sources close to the investigation, the man apparently mistook the driver for his ex-partner's new boyfriend. The victim was then reportedly attacked with a knife, notably in the chest and wrist. This case of mistaken identity could have had dramatic consequences, as the driver appeared to have no connection to the relationship dispute. Taken to Avicenne Hospital in Bobigny, the driver was treated, but his condition was not life-threatening. Police officers who responded to the report of the attack reportedly found a knife along the route taken by the suspected perpetrator during his escape.

The investigation is now in the hands of the criminal investigation department.

The exact circumstances of the attack are still being determined by investigators. The Seine-Saint-Denis departmental criminal investigation service has been tasked with the investigation, particularly to establish the precise sequence of events and identify the perpetrator.

At this stage, the Bobigny prosecutor's office had not yet made a public statement on the case, and the possible arrest of the suspect had not been confirmed. The customer's testimony should, in particular, allow investigators to clarify the motive and circumstances that led the alleged assailant to attack the driver.

This case highlights the particular vulnerability of ride-hailing drivers, who operate daily in public spaces to pick up clients whose backgrounds and potential conflicts they generally don't know. In this instance, the driver was allegedly targeted due to mistaking him for someone unrelated to his work. This case of mistaken identity could have turned a simple ride into a tragedy.
