Two men have been charged after the body of a 48-year-old man was discovered at his home in Brienon-sur-Armançon, in the northern part of the Yonne department. The victim, who was not known to the police, was found dead on Friday in circumstances that are now the subject of a criminal investigation.
According to initial findings reported by the public prosecutor of Auxerre, Marie-Denise Pichonnier, the death appears to have been caused by multiple blows to the head. This hypothesis still needs to be confirmed by the autopsy report, the conclusions of which will clarify the causes and circumstances of death.
Two separate criminal classifications
A 34-year-old suspect has been charged with voluntary homicide. A second man, aged 43, is being prosecuted for complicity in murder. Both have been placed in pretrial detention pending further investigation.
The alleged perpetrator of the attack has no prior criminal record. The second suspect had previously been convicted of traffic offenses and drug use. However, the prosecutor's office stated that no evidence gathered at this stage suggests a drug-related settling of scores.
