A New Mexico court on Thursday ordered Meta to pay $567 million in damages to miners caused by its platforms. Judge Bryan Biedscheid ruled that the company contributed to public disorder. This decision marks the second stage of a landmark trial, a first in the United States in this area.
A fund dedicated to the care of young people
The funds will be distributed across several programs over five years. Support services for young people will receive $420 million. The remaining amount will fund awareness campaigns, prevention initiatives, and screening services.
This ruling comes as tech giants face increasing pressure regarding their responsibility to protect younger users. The amount imposed on Meta reflects the extent of the harm recognized by the US justice system.
