The left-wing primary is beginning to shape the political landscape within the Socialist Party. This Monday morning on BFMTV, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol defended Raphaël Glucksmann's candidacy, while MP Arthur Delaporte enthusiastically welcomed Olivier Faure's entry into the race.
A supporter of Raphaël Glucksmann, the mayor of Rouen, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, believes that the leader of Place Publique embodies the "clarity" the left needs to confront the far right. "We won't fight the far right with extreme vagueness," he declared, adding, "We want absolute clarity."
Delaporte is betting on Olivier Faure
Conversely, Arthur Delaporte described the announcement of Olivier Faure's candidacy as "the best news of the evening" on Sunday. The Socialist MP believes that the PS's first secretary can "represent the PS and bring together a broader left wing." "I think that's what we need if we want to win," he stated.
Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol also directly targeted Jean-Luc Mélenchon, arguing that a vote for the leader of La France Insoumise would automatically favor Marine Le Pen in the second round. This was a way of supporting Raphaël Glucksmann's strategy, which seeks to embody a social-democratic, pro-European left, distinct from La France Insoumise.
With just a few weeks until the primary, support is beginning to clearly divide among the different candidates. Raphaël Glucksmann continues to attract several Socialist Party leaders, while Olivier Faure can now count on elected officials from the party to defend his ability to unite the left around the Socialist Party.
