In a context of continued consumer pressure, E.Leclerc confirms its dominance in the French retail sector. The chain announces a turnover of €51,1 billion excluding fuel in 2025, a 2,4% increase year-on-year. This performance allows it to maintain its number one position, with over 24% market share.
Since 2020, the trajectory has been clear. In five years, the group has claimed nearly €12 billion in additional revenue and a five-point gain in market share. By 2024, sales had already reached €49,9 billion. The year 2025 thus confirms this established momentum, despite an inflationary environment and increased competition.
According to Kantar data covering the period from October to early November 2025, E.Leclerc holds 24,4% of the market. Carrefour follows with 21,2%, then the Mousquetaires group with 17,6%, and La Coopérative U with 12,9%. The gap remains significant, even though competitors are trying to close it.
An independent model that makes a difference
One of the driving forces behind this performance lies in the very structure of the group. E.Leclerc operates as a network of independent stores. Members have greater autonomy than in integrated groups, where decisions are centralized. This organization allows for a tailored approach to local realities and an aggressive pricing strategy.
Private label brands also represent a significant lever. They grew by 1,9% in 2025, reaching €12,1 billion, primarily in the food sector. In a context where consumers are more selective about their spending, these products remain attractive.
The group does not disclose its net results, as each store is legally independent. Only consolidated sales are published, which distinguishes its operation from that of integrated players like Carrefour or Auchan. Despite increased competition, E.Leclerc maintains a comfortable lead. With more than one in four euros spent in supermarkets and hypermarkets captured by its stores, the brand remains the undisputed leader in the sector in France in 2025.
