The Minister of National Education, Édouard Geffray, reacted this Friday to the school bus accident that occurred that morning in Lent, in the Ain department. While visiting the Jules-Ferry high school in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, in the Yvelines department, the minister wanted to express his support for the students involved and their families before continuing his press conference.

"It's always a difficult time when our children are involved in an accident."

Informed of the tragedy while he was traveling, Édouard Geffray chose to begin his remarks by addressing the accident. The minister offered "his thoughts to the students who were victims of the accident ," before adding: "It is always a difficult experience when our children are victims of an accident of this nature."

This statement was made while a major rescue operation was still underway in the Ain region. The minister expressed his solidarity with the children affected by the accident, their families, and the educational community.

An accident that mobilized significant rescue resources

The bus, which was carrying students to Bourg-en-Bresse, among other places, left the D22 departmental road around 7:30 a.m., before hitting a tree and ending up in a ditch. According to initial reports from local authorities, two people, possibly children, were in cardiac arrest and several others were injured.

The Ain prefecture has activated a crisis unit to coordinate rescue efforts. Two helicopters have been deployed, and the Minister of Transport, Philippe Tabarot, has announced his intention to visit the site.

At the time of Édouard Geffray's statement, the final toll of the accident had not yet been established, but the prefecture announced that two people had died, including a minor.
