The President of the Republic has decided to reappoint Laurent Le Bon as President of the Centre Pompidou, on the recommendation of the Minister of Culture, Catherine Pégard. Alexander Neef was also reappointed the same day as Director General of the Paris Opera, with both leaders tasked with overseeing major projects for their respective institutions.

A route entirely built around museum heritage

An art historian trained at Sciences Po and the École du Louvre, Laurent Le Bon joined the Centre Pompidou as a curator in 2000, before taking over as director of the Centre Pompidou-Metz in 2010, where he oversaw its construction. He then directed the Picasso Museum in Paris from 2014 to 2021, where he supervised its reopening after major renovations, before being appointed president of the Centre Pompidou in 2021, succeeding Serge Lasvignes.

The establishment is undergoing a closure of several years for complete renovation, a project estimated at 460 million euros, of which 280 million is financed by the French State.

A monumental project to be completed

The works include the complete removal of asbestos from the building, bringing it up to accessibility and safety standards, as well as a complete redesign of the interior spaces while preserving the iconic exterior structure designed in the 1970s. A large terrace open to the public is planned on the seventh floor, offering a panoramic view of Paris.

Laurent Le Bon explained that he wanted to offer visitors, at the reopening, a shock comparable to that felt by the public at the inauguration of the Centre in 1977, while promising a 40% reduction in the building's energy bills thanks to better sealing.
