The 289 passengers on an Intercités train from Paris to Clermont-Ferrand experienced a particularly trying day on Monday. Departing from Paris-Bercy station at 6:57 a.m., the train finally arrived at its destination nearly eight hours late following a locomotive breakdown in the Loiret region, shortly before Gien.
According to SNCF Voyageurs, several troubleshooting attempts were made remotely with the support of technical experts. Faced with the impossibility of restoring the train to service, the decision was made to replace the locomotive. During this extended immobilization, passengers were assisted by civil protection services and were able to temporarily leave the train.
Passengers forced to leave the train
Images circulating on social media show dozens of passengers crossing fields alongside the railway line to reach an impromptu refreshment point. Elderly people were among those affected. Once the train departed, an additional stop was made in Gien to distribute meal boxes to the passengers.
Following the incident, SNCF Voyageurs announced exceptional compensation amounting to 200% of the ticket price for all affected passengers. The company apologized to passengers for the inconvenience experienced that day.
