Patrick Bruel's tour, scheduled to resume in October, is provoking reactions in several cities where the singer is expected. Following the particularly firm stance taken by the mayor of Chartres , elected officials in Tours, Laval, and Caen have also expressed their unease or raised the possibility of cancellation. In Reims, however, the municipality points out that it does not have the direct authority to decide whether the concert will proceed. Patrick Bruel is the subject of several complaints of sexual assault, and the singer has confirmed that his tour will continue. At this stage, the affected concerts remain scheduled.
In Tours, Emmanuel Denis directly asked Patrick Bruel to cancel
In Tours, where Patrick Bruel is scheduled to perform as part of his tour, the Green Party mayor, Emmanuel Denis, has taken an unambiguous stance: he is asking the singer to cancel his appearance himself. The Tours municipality is therefore not simply expressing reservations about the concert's organization; the mayor is directly asking Patrick Bruel to withdraw from the scheduled date.
In Caen, the mayor is not ruling out banning the concert
The position is also firm in Caen, where Patrick Bruel is expected on October 19. The office of Mayor Aristide Olivier, a center-right politician, indicates that a ban on the concert could be imposed if the conditions surrounding its performance present a risk of public disorder. In a press release, the municipality believes that Patrick Bruel should have made the decision to suspend his tour himself: "Given the number of sexual assault complaints now filed against Mr. Bruel and which are the subject of legal proceedings, he should have, on his own initiative and responsibly, decided to suspend or cancel his tour pending the judgment." The mayor's office also warns that it will closely monitor the events preceding the singer's performance in Caen : "The Mayor will be particularly attentive to the conditions under which the concerts scheduled before the one in Caen will take place and does not rule out cancellation in the event of a proven risk of public disorder." " The concert is therefore still scheduled at this stage, but the municipality is clearly leaving open the possibility of a ban if it considers that the legal conditions allowing such a decision are met.
In Laval, Florian Bercault calls on the singer to "take responsibility"
In Laval, the left-leaning mayor, Florian Bercault, also directly addressed Patrick Bruel, asking him to "take responsibility ." The elected official emphasized the need to let the justice system do its work and to take women's voices into account: "Women's voices must be listened to and heard today; the justice system must be able to do its job." Here again, the political pressure is focused on Patrick Bruel's decision to continue his tour despite the complaints filed against him.
In Reims, the town hall is deferring the decision to the producer and the venue manager.
The situation is different in Reims. The municipality indicates that Patrick Bruel's concert is scheduled to take place in a venue managed by a private company. The mayor's office clarifies that the decision to cancel or maintain the show does not rest directly with them: " The choice to cancel or not therefore falls to the tour producer and the company managing the Reims event venue ," explains the mayor's office. Unlike Tours, Laval, or Caen, the Reims municipality is not directly requesting the cancellation of the date and emphasizes the limits of its role in organizing the concert.
Chartres had launched the protest against maintaining the tour
These reactions follow the particularly aggressive stance taken in Chartres. Mayor Ladislas Vergne publicly announced that he did not wish to host Patrick Bruel and that he would do everything in his power to prevent the concert from taking place. The mayor notably announced his intention to cancel the booking of the venue located in the Eure-et-Loir department. Patrick Bruel, for his part, confirmed that his tour would indeed go ahead. At this stage, no general cancellation decision has been announced, and the various dates therefore remain subject to the decisions of the organizers, venue managers, and, where legally permissible, local authorities.
An October tour now under intense pressure
Just weeks before the announced resumption of his tour, reactions from several municipalities have put Patrick Bruel's upcoming dates under scrutiny. However, the situations vary from city to city. Tours is asking the singer to cancel, Laval is calling on him to take responsibility, Caen is considering a possible ban should there be a proven risk of public disorder, while Reims maintains that the decision rests with the producer and the venue's private manager.
