Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan unveiled on Wednesday a vast protein atlas developed using artificial intelligence by their research organization Biohub. This new tool aims to accelerate biomedical discoveries and the development of future treatments for certain serious diseases.
Designed as a scientific search engine, the system can analyze and predict the function of proteins based on billions of genetic sequences. Researchers hope this will significantly reduce the time required to create new therapeutic molecules.
A new step in AI-assisted medical research
According to Biohub, some molecules were designed in just a few days using the artificial intelligence model, compared to several months or even years with traditional methods. The organization states that initial laboratory tests show promising results, particularly in the fight against certain cancers and autoimmune diseases.
