The leader of the Socialist deputies, Boris Vallaud, announced this Thursday that he would not participate in the primary of the Socialist and Democratic Left for the 2027 presidential election. He chooses to support Raphaël Glucksmann, whom he considers to be the "best placed and best prepared" candidate.
In a letter to Socialist Party members, Boris Vallaud explained that he wanted to make his decision based on a single criterion: the ability to lead the presidential campaign. "I am choosing to support the candidacy that seems to me the most serious," he wrote, before adding: "Who is best placed and best prepared to lead this presidential campaign? To this question, I answer with the name of Raphaël Glucksmann."
A significant new supporter for Glucksmann
This decision comes on the eve of the Socialist Party's summer conference in Blois and further strengthens the momentum surrounding the leader of Place Publique. Following Carole Delga, Yannick Jadot, and several other Socialist elected officials, Raphaël Glucksmann has now secured the support of the president of the Socialist group in the National Assembly.
Boris Vallaud is therefore abandoning his own ambitions in the primary to focus on a unifying candidacy around Raphaël Glucksmann. Just weeks before the internal election, this alliance could significantly influence the balance of power within the Socialist Party.
