North Korea launches several missiles into the sea in a new show of force from Pyongyang.

North Korea conducted several projectile launches on Tuesday, including at least one short-range ballistic missile, toward the waters off its west coast, according to the South Korean military. This latest military demonstration comes amid ongoing tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

According to the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), the missiles were launched around 13 p.m. local time from the vicinity of Chongju, in North Pyongan Province. One of the missiles reportedly traveled approximately 80 kilometers before landing in the sea.

This is the first known missile launch conducted by Pyongyang since April 19. On that date, North Korea had already conducted tests of several short-range ballistic missiles which it presented as being equipped with cluster bombs.

In early April, the North Korean regime also claimed to have tested a new fragmentation warhead and an electromagnetic weapon. Several analysts at the time suggested that these announcements were intended to demonstrate the country's capacity to conduct modern, technological warfare operations.

Seoul condemned the latest missile launches and urged Pyongyang to respond to diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region. South Korean authorities are closely monitoring North Korea's military activities in cooperation with the United States.

North Korean missile tests remain a major source of concern for neighboring countries and the international community. Despite UN sanctions, Pyongyang continues to develop its ballistic missile and military programs, regularly staging demonstrations of force.
