In Belgium, a train collides with a school bus: several deaths in Buggenhout

A collision between a train and a school bus on Tuesday morning in the Belgian town of Buggenhout left several people dead, according to a source cited by Reuters.

The accident occurred early in the morning at a level crossing located about one kilometer from Buggenhout station, north of Brussels.

Belgian Interior Minister Bernard Quintin reacted on the X network, stating that he had learned "with deep sadness" of this "tragic accident," without giving further details on the casualty figures.

Belgian police authorities did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the exact circumstances of the collision.

Belgium has a particularly dense rail network, passing through numerous cities and towns. The country has already experienced several fatal accidents at level crossings in recent years.

According to Infrabel, the Belgian railway infrastructure operator, five people lost their lives in accidents of this type in 2025, the lowest figure recorded since 2020.
