The United States has removed UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, from its sanctions list, according to a notice published on the website of the US Treasury Department.
This decision comes about a week after a US federal judge temporarily blocked sanctions against him, ruling that the Trump administration had likely violated his freedom of speech rights.
Francesca Albanese was sanctioned in July 2025 by the United States for her critical stances regarding the war in Gaza and her calls for international prosecutions against certain Israeli and American officials.
In her role at the UN, she notably recommended that the International Criminal Court investigate allegations of war crimes and published reports accusing certain companies of complicity in Israeli military operations in Gaza, accusations strongly contested by Washington and Israel.
The US sanctions specifically prohibited him from entering the United States and accessing the American banking system.
Removal from the sanctions list does not necessarily signify a change in overall political position, but it puts an end to immediate administrative restrictions, pending legal proceedings or possible new decisions by the US administration.
