The UN chief condemns the strikes against civilian infrastructure in Iran

Antonio Guterres said he was "deeply concerned" by the military escalation between Iran and the United States, after Tehran accused Washington of targeting bridges and transport hubs.

The United Nations Secretary-General raised his voice on Friday in response to the strikes targeting civilian infrastructure in Iran. His spokesperson, Farhan Haq, conveyed the message to reporters: "The Secretary-General remains deeply concerned by the continued military escalation between Iran and the United States of America."

The statement comes as Iran accuses US forces of targeting bridges and transport hubs on its territory. In response to these allegations, Guterres issued an unambiguous message through his spokesperson: "He is particularly concerned about attacks on civilian infrastructure in Iran and throughout the region. Such attacks are unacceptable."

The UN did not specify which specific strikes were targeted by this condemnation, nor did it provide independent assessments of the damage caused to Iranian civilian sites.
