One person died after a collision between two freight trains occurred overnight Friday to Saturday in Munich, southern Germany. The accident caused several wagons to derail, two of which fell from a bridge before crashing onto the road below.
The incident occurred in the Milbertshofen district, north of the city. According to local authorities, emergency services were alerted shortly after 1:40 a.m. and quickly responded to the scene of the collision.
Images released after the accident showed two freight cars lying on their sides on the road after falling from the railway bridge. Despite the scale of the accident, there were no immediate reports of injuries among motorists or pedestrians.
Approximately 60 rescue workers were mobilized to secure the area, assist those involved, and assess the damage to rail and road infrastructure. Rescue and clearing operations continued for several hours.
Authorities have not yet specified the exact circumstances of the collision. Munich police indicated that an investigation has been opened to determine the causes of the accident and establish any potential liability.
