Pornhub reopened in France on June 5th after a year-long absence. The world's most visited pornographic website had left the French market due to regulatory requirements for verifying users' ages. Its return comes after a ruling by the Paris Administrative Court that temporarily suspended these verification requirements. RedTube and YouPorn, also owned by the Aylo Group, were subsequently reinstated.
Access is now reserved for paying subscribers.
The major change concerns access to the pornographic content itself. The site's homepage now displays a completely different offering, centered on filmed podcasts available for free. The adult videos that made the platform famous are now only visible to subscribers with a paid premium subscription. This radical transformation makes the site unrecognizable to regular users who previously enjoyed free and open access.
A still fragile legal situation
The future of this arrangement remains uncertain. The temporary nature of the court ruling suggests that this situation could change rapidly. Pornhub continues to refrain from offering a comprehensive age verification system despite French legal requirements. The platform has opted for a strategy that temporarily circumvents regulatory obligations while fundamentally altering its business model for the French market.
