A computer glitch affected the application of the Belgian postal operator bpost, allowing some users to access information about parcels not intended for them. The incident, which occurred Monday evening, was confirmed Tuesday by the company following reports in local media.
Affected customers could see third-party shipments appear in their tracking information, containing sensitive data such as the recipient's name, address, and package collection code. While the technical issue was quickly resolved, traces of the problem still remain in the application's interface.
Visible data, corrective measures underway
Bpost recommends that users manually remove any parcels that do not belong to them from their account. The company states that it has launched a thorough internal analysis to precisely identify the source of the vulnerability and prevent a similar incident from recurring.
The operator also assures that it treats the protection of personal data as a priority, without specifying at this stage the exact extent of the number of customers affected by this involuntary exposure of information.
