The government has confirmed the doubling of the annual cap on medical deductibles and co-payments. This measure is expected to generate €750 million in revenue for public finances. One year after abandoning the initial plan, the government is reviving its plan to cut healthcare spending.
Last year, this reform was withdrawn after provoking strong opposition. Unions and patient associations mobilized against what they considered a further reduction in reimbursements. The tight budgetary context has clearly led the government to relaunch the measure.
A project resurrected after the 2025 backlash
The deductibles apply to medications, paramedical services, and medical transport. Their annual cap, currently set at €50, would increase to €100 per insured person. This contribution remains modest compared to the Social Security deficit, but is part of a series of measures aimed at controlling spending.
