The Seine-Saint-Denis prefecture has ordered the administrative closure, for a period of six months, of the Chanteloup mosque, located in Aulnay-sous-Bois. Authorities accuse the imams and several invited speakers of having disseminated speeches inciting violence, hatred, and discrimination, as well as statements amounting to the glorification of terrorism. The decision was made on the basis of Article L. 227-1 of the Internal Security Code.
According to the prefecture, the sermons delivered at the place of worship, as well as the content disseminated on social media by some religious leaders, contribute to the spread of a radical Islamist ideology. Authorities believe that certain speeches echo the rhetoric of terrorist organizations, legitimize jihad, and glorify martyrdom, thus justifying the administrative closure.
Sermons and online content called into question
The prefecture also mentions the interventions of outside preachers invited to speak at the mosque. Among the items cited is a video, posted several months ago on the social network X, in which an imam who had given at least one lecture at the mosque encouraged parents to hit their children aged 11 and over when they were not praying.
At this stage, no representative of the mosque has publicly reacted to this decision. This closure is part of the measures taken by the authorities to combat speech deemed to promote radicalization and the glorification of terrorism within certain places of worship.
