Losing your registration certificate on the road or forgetting it in the rush to leave is no longer a nightmare for motorists. Since June 30, it is now possible to keep a digital version of your registration certificate directly on your smartphone. A welcome development ahead of the big summer departures. This new feature is offered via the France Identité app, which already centralizes other official documents. It allows drivers to access their registration certificate at any time, even in the event of an unexpected roadside check. According to the National Agency for Secure Documents (ANTS), this measure simplifies users' lives while strengthening the security of data exchange.
Strict conditions and expanded use
But access to this service isn't something you can improvise. Only vehicle owners, co-owners, or private lessees can import their registration certificate into the app. You also need a recent French identity card, in bank card format, and an NFC-compatible smartphone. The user must be 18 years of age or older. The system applies to vehicles registered in the standard format (type AA-123-AA), whether cars, motorcycles, mopeds, tricycles, or motorized quadricycles. Importing is done in just a few steps: after installing the app, you need to enter the registration card data, enter your France Identité personal code, and then validate everything by scanning your identity card. It's even possible to store multiple certificates on a single device, a significant advantage for households with multiple vehicles. Behind this digitalization, the government hopes to generalize a logic of administrative simplification and respond to increasingly entrenched mobile usage. And for motorists, it's one less worry in the glove compartment.
