A major fire broke out on Sunday in Seine-et-Marne, causing significant disruptions on the Paris region's motorway network. The A5 and A6 motorways were closed to traffic due to two separate fires, one of which spread very close to the carriageways. The first fire started on the edge of the A6 motorway, in the Trois Pignons mountain range, in the town of Noisy-sur-École. The flames and heavy smoke quickly led authorities to close several sections of the motorway.
The smoke severely reduces visibility on the A5
The A5 motorway was also affected, not directly by the flames, but by a thick cloud of smoke that severely reduced visibility for motorists. For safety reasons, traffic was halted for several kilometers. The closures particularly affected the section between exits 16 and 17, as traffic conditions no longer allowed for the safety of road users.
Significant resources mobilized
Firefighters have been deployed in large numbers to contain the two fires and prevent them from spreading. Law enforcement is also present to secure the affected areas and set up detours to bypass closed sections. Operations are continuing as the weather conditions, characterized by heat and drought, are favoring the rapid spread of the wildfires.
Traffic disruptions are expected for several hours.
The closures of the A5 and A6 motorways are causing significant delays on alternative routes. Motorists traveling in the southern Île-de-France region are advised to avoid the area until the roads reopen, which will depend on the progress of the fires and the complete securing of the site.
