Tourism continues to break records in the Principality. According to a study published by the Monegasque government, Monaco welcomed 6,7 million visitors in 2025, generating €1,4 billion in direct tourism revenue. Conducted among more than 17,000 people by the Monegasque Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (IMSEE) and the Monaco Government Tourist and Convention Authority, the survey provides a detailed profile of visitors and their spending habits.

Although Monaco has just under 40,000 inhabitants in an area of two square kilometers, its appeal lies primarily in day-trippers, who make up 92,5% of visitors. These visitors stay outside the Principality and come to spend the day there.

The vast majority are day-trippers

Day visitors stay in Monaco for an average of 1,2 days and spend €76 per day. Nearly half of this amount is spent on food and drink, while approximately €21 is spent on shopping. The French are by far the largest group of visitors, representing almost half of all day-trippers (49,6%), followed by Italians (7,4%), Americans (5,3%), and British (5,2%).

Tourists who stay bring in the most money

Although they represent only 7,5% of visitors, tourists spending at least one night in Monaco generate over 60% of the Principality's tourism revenue. Their stay lasts an average of 3,8 days, and their spending reaches €348 per day, primarily for accommodation. Each overnight visitor spends an average of €1,670 during their stay. This amount climbs to €2,365 during the Formula 1 Grand Prix, one of the most important events on the Monegasque calendar.

An international clientele with high purchasing power

Among tourists staying in Monaco, the French remain the most numerous (26,4%), followed by Italians (14,1%), Americans (9,9%), and British (8,7%). Visitors from the Near and Middle East, however, account for the highest spending, with nearly €1,000 spent daily, even though they represent only 2% of this clientele. The study also reveals that nearly 2% of tourists arrive by helicopter and that, during the summer, approximately 6% choose to stay on board their yachts, illustrating Monaco's upscale positioning as a destination.
