Skyrock's iconic show is making its return to television in a new format. This Monday, France 4 broadcast "Planète Rap, la quotidienne" (Planet Rap, the Daily Show), which will air Monday through Thursday at 21 p.m. At the helm is Fred Musa, a key figure in the program, which launched in 1996 and has become a must-see for rap and R&B artists over the years.
A new showcase for urban cultures
This television version aims to be shorter, more fast-paced, and more accessible, while retaining the essence of the original show: encounters, personal stories, live segments, and studio moments. For the first week, three artists with very different backgrounds take turns at the microphone: Georgio, returning with an intimate album dedicated to his father; Marwa Loud, back after a media hiatus; and Oxmo Puccino, presenting what he describes as his "ultimate" project.
The public broadcaster is thus strengthening its presence in urban culture, with a deliberate focus on showcasing diverse artists and musical approaches ranging from pure rap to R&B and incorporating influences from traditional French chanson. The extended interviews will also be available on YouTube, in order to reach digital audiences, who are particularly prominent within the rap community.
With this new format, France Télévisions hopes to reach a young and loyal audience, while maintaining continuity with programs like "Basique." As for Fred Musa, he further strengthens his position as a bridge between generations in a landscape where rap remains, year after year, the leading musical genre in France.
