The American startup Anthropic, specializing in artificial intelligence and known for its assistant Claude, has announced a record-breaking $65 billion funding round. This transaction propels its valuation to $965 billion, an unprecedented level that allows it to surpass its main competitor, OpenAI, valued at $852 billion in its last funding round.
Led by several major investment funds, including Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital, this funding round reflects the growing enthusiasm of the markets for major players in artificial intelligence. In just three months, the value of the San Francisco-based company has almost tripled, rising from $380 billion to $965 billion.
Towards a highly anticipated IPO
This spectacular growth is largely due to the success of its professional tools, particularly Claude Code, designed for developers. Anthropic claims to have increased its annualized revenue to $47 billion, compared to $14 billion during its previous funding round. To meet the ever-increasing demand for computing power, the company has forged numerous partnerships with Amazon, Google, Broadcom, and even SpaceX, which provides it with some of its computing resources.
Now just a few billion dollars shy of the symbolic $1.000 trillion valuation mark, Anthropic has established itself as one of the world's leading artificial intelligence companies. Markets are now expecting an IPO by the end of the year, amid unprecedented competition among major players in the sector.
