As the Fête de la Musique approaches, several municipalities have decided to cancel outdoor events due to the heatwave affecting a large part of the country. Poitiers, Brive-la-Gaillarde, Argenteuil, Boulogne-Billancourt, Nanterre, and Châtellerault have all called off gatherings to ensure the safety of the public, artists, and staff.
Météo-France forecasts temperatures that could reach 40°C in some areas and tropical nights that will limit cooling. Some municipalities are considering holding some events indoors, while others have chosen to postpone the biggest concerts.
A case-by-case approach to managing the heatwave
Despite the increasing number of local cancellations, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez has ruled out a nationwide ban. The government has asked prefects and regional health agencies to work with organizers to adapt prevention measures to weather conditions.
With up to 60 departments under orange alert and the possibility of red alerts still emerging, further cancellations could be announced. Authorities are urging caution this weekend, marked by an exceptional heatwave across much of France.
