"My physical pursuit was orchestrated": Charles Alloncle accuses Xavier Niel after the publication of photos with his parliamentary assistant

UDR MP Charles Alloncle reacted strongly to Mediapart's revelations concerning photographs of his private life published by Paris Match last May. In a message posted on social media, the elected official claims that his "hounding in Paris right up to the door of [his] home," as well as the dissemination of photos showing him with his parliamentary assistant, were "organized, financed, and disseminated by Xavier Niel," based on information published by the investigative media outlet.

This affair comes amid already tense relations between the head of Free and the rapporteur of the parliamentary inquiry into public broadcasting. During his hearing before the members of parliament, Xavier Niel had several heated exchanges with Charles Alloncle, even going so far as to denounce it as a "circus." A few weeks later, the publication of photographs of the elected official by the tabloid press fueled controversy, with some suggesting a personal relationship between the MP and his assistant. This hypothesis was ultimately dismissed by the National Assembly, which found no irregularities.

In his response, Charles Alloncle questions the means by which certain major economic players might exert pressure on political leaders. "By what right can a billionaire, dissatisfied with having to be held accountable, use his financial and media resources to intimidate, monitor, and smear a member of parliament?" he writes. The elected official also laments the lack of institutional response to what he considers an attempt at destabilization.

Despite the controversy, Charles Alloncle insists he will not give in to intimidation. "If some think these mafia-like methods will silence me, they are mistaken," he asserts, promising to continue his parliamentary work "with the same determination."
