A man has been jailed after a woman died after falling from a window in Le Havre.

A man in his sixties has been charged and placed in pretrial detention following the death of a woman found after falling from a window in Le Havre, Seine-Maritime. The incident occurred on Friday in a building on Rue Louis-Blanc, where the 69-year-old victim succumbed to her injuries after falling from her apartment.

According to the Le Havre prosecutor's office, a judicial investigation has been opened for "voluntary homicide of a vulnerable person." The investigation has confirmed the victim's vulnerable state, as she suffered from significant mobility difficulties. The suspect, who was intoxicated at the time of the incident according to initial findings, denied the accusations during his police custody.

The suspect was being hosted by the victim.

The prosecutor's office clarified that the man in question was not the woman's partner but an acquaintance whom she was housing at her home. Investigators indicated that several neighbors reported hearing shouts and insults shortly before the body was discovered at the foot of the building.

Already known to the police for acts of intentional violence, the suspect was not, however, the subject of any complaints or reports concerning any potential disputes with the victim. The investigation, entrusted to the Le Havre police, must now determine the precise circumstances of the tragedy and the exact sequence of events.
