Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make his first official visit to New Zealand next week, his New Zealand counterpart Christopher Luxon announced on Friday.

This visit is historic as it will be the first by an Indian head of government to New Zealand in forty years, Christopher Luxon stressed in a statement.

Narendra Modi will arrive in Auckland on July 10 and leave the country the following day.

This visit comes a few months after the signing, in April, of a free trade agreement between the two countries. This agreement provides for the elimination of 95% of tariffs on goods exported by New Zealand, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral economic relations.

The authorities of both countries hope that this visit will further deepen their strategic and commercial partnership, in a context of growing rapprochement between Wellington and New Delhi.
