North Korea claims to have tested artificial intelligence-guided missiles

North Korea has conducted tests of tactical ballistic missiles, artillery rockets and precision cruise missiles guided by artificial intelligence, according to the official KCNA news agency.

The tests were overseen by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who claimed that the systems had been upgraded to meet "the conditions of modern warfare."

According to KCNA, the tests were aimed in particular at evaluating the accuracy of AI-guided tactical cruise missiles, as well as the reliability of long-range artillery systems and ballistic missiles equipped with "special mission warheads".

Pyongyang has been developing its conventional and nuclear arsenal for several years, with the stated objective of deploying advanced weapons near the border with South Korea.

According to experts cited by Reuters, the integration of artificial intelligence technologies into missile targeting systems would represent a potentially new development for North Korea, even if the actual capabilities of these systems remain difficult to verify.

These tests also come as Pyongyang is accused of supplying missiles and artillery pieces to Russia for the war in Ukraine.
