Angela Eagle appointed UK Security Minister

The British government announced on Friday the appointment of Angela Eagle as Security Minister, following the reshuffle caused by the promotion of Dan Jarvis to the Ministry of Defence.

This decision comes as the Prime Minister continues to reorganize his government team in a context marked by growing challenges in terms of internal security, the fight against terrorism, organized crime and border protection.

Angela Eagle is an experienced figure in the Labour Party. A Member of Parliament for many years, she held several ministerial positions and responsibilities within the opposition before Labour's return to power. Her appointment now places her at the heart of issues related to national security and the coordination of law enforcement policies.

She succeeds Dan Jarvis, who left the Department for Security after being appointed Minister of Defence the previous day. A former military officer and Labour MP, Jarvis was called upon to head the armed forces ministry amidst a backdrop of significant geopolitical tensions on the international stage.

The Security portfolio notably covers the fight against terrorist threats, cybersecurity, transnational crime and cooperation with British intelligence services.

This appointment is one of the key changes announced by the British government as part of its mid-term cabinet reshuffle. Angela Eagle will now oversee several sensitive issues related to the UK's internal security, as the country faces increasing challenges in this area.
