Former Green Party Secretary of State Jean-Vincent Placé will appear before the Paris Criminal Court on October 29. The 58-year-old will be tried for sexual harassment through abuse of authority and for alleged sexual assaults against two women. He firmly denies all the charges.
The investigating judge believes the accusations reveal a consistent pattern of behavior during business trips abroad in 2016 and 2017, when the former politician allegedly consumed alcohol. The first complainant, who worked with him in the Senate and later at the State Secretariat for Reform, accuses him of, among other things, inappropriate touching during an evening in Seoul and harassment over several months.
Two women report incidents that occurred in South Korea
The second complainant, who had no professional relationship with Jean-Vincent Placé, claims to have been subjected to several non-consensual sexual acts during a reception held in South Korea in March 2017. The lawyer for both women presents this trial as the culmination of a long and arduous process initiated after the first complaint was filed in November 2021.
The defense maintains that the former Secretary of State will appear in court to prove his innocence. Jean-Vincent Placé was previously convicted in 2021 for the sexual harassment of a female police officer, and in 2018 for violence, contempt of court, and racial insults. These previous convictions are legally separate from the new case, in which he remains presumed innocent.
