The AIDS Solidarity association is facing a major financial setback after the cancellation of the Solidays festival, forced to close due to a heatwave. The decision, motivated by public health concerns, results in an estimated loss of €3 million. These funds represent a significant portion of the organization's budget for its field operations in its mission to prevent and support people living with HIV.
A budget cut for the programs
The festival, which is the association's main source of income, directly funds the programs implemented throughout the year. Without this financial support, several initiatives risk being postponed or scaled back. Solidarité Sida officials describe this situation as very bad news for the continuation of their work with vulnerable populations.
Fragility of the associative model
This cancellation also raises the question of the fragility of the economic model of associations that rely on a single event. The direct loss of expected revenue highlights the dependence of many associations on public events, the staging of which remains subject to the vagaries of weather and health conditions.
