Switzerland - Families denounce the handling of autopsies after the deadly fire at a bar in Crans-Montana

Grieving parents in Switzerland have expressed their anger at the way authorities handled the autopsies following the deadly fire at a bar in the ski resort of Crans-Montana last month. They believe the criminal investigation missed crucial opportunities to establish the exact causes of death and any potential liability.

According to several sources close to the case, the prosecutor's office has not ordered autopsies for all the victims of the fire. This decision has sparked incomprehension and frustration among the families, who consider these examinations essential to precisely determine the circumstances of their loved ones' deaths and to inform the judicial investigation.

Among the families mobilized is that of 17-year-old Trystan Pidoux, who died in the fire. His mother, Vinciane Stucky, stated that the victims' relatives felt that crucial elements had not been examined in a timely manner. Several critics have thus referred to "missed opportunities" in the conduct of the criminal investigation, particularly in the first days following the tragedy.

Faced with this situation, some families are now considering requesting the exhumation of the bodies in order to conduct post-mortem autopsies, according to a lawyer representing several relatives of the victims. Such a step would be emotionally draining, but deemed necessary by some parents to obtain answers they feel are still lacking.

For their part, the prosecutors defended the way the investigation was conducted. They maintain that they acted in accordance with applicable procedures and based on the information available at the time of the events, asserting that the decisions taken aimed to reconcile judicial requirements with respect for the families.

The fire, which deeply shocked Switzerland, continues to fuel intense tensions between the victims' families and the authorities. As the investigation continues, these disagreements highlight the families' strong expectations for transparency and judicial rigor following a tragedy of this magnitude.
