The Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France (CRIF) has filed a complaint with the Ministry of the Interior and the courts against the clothing brand Sa7ten, which has been sold in France since 2024. CRIF suspects the brand of conveying messages that could be considered an endorsement of terrorism, in direct reference to the October 7th attacks. The organization is demanding an outright ban on the brand. Its president considers Sa7ten's expansion unacceptable in the French market.
A contested symbolism
The clothing sold by the brand features an inverted red triangle on black or khaki windbreakers. This symbol is at the heart of the controversy. The brand denies any reference to October 7th. Sa7ten's representatives dispute the CRIF's interpretation and refute any intention of glorifying terrorist acts.
This case comes amid heightened vigilance against messages that could incite violence. Judicial authorities will now have to examine the evidence submitted by the CRIF (Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France) to determine whether the visuals and brand name actually constitute a criminal offense. The proceedings could lead to prosecution of the company's executives.
