In response to the intensifying heatwave affecting a large part of the country, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu will chair an interministerial crisis cell (CIC) meeting on Friday, July 10, Matignon announced. The meeting is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Ministry of the Interior to coordinate the government's response.
This mobilization comes as 72 departments are under an orange heatwave warning. According to Météo-France, the heatwave is expected to continue at least until Tuesday, with a further rise in temperatures expected as early as Sunday. The intense heat continues to spread towards the north and east of the country.
Fires are multiplying across the territory
The deteriorating weather conditions are accompanied by a resurgence of fires. Significant fires are currently burning in the Drôme and Indre departments, where emergency services are battling one of the largest fires ever recorded in the region.
On Wednesday, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez reported that more than 325 fires had been recorded across the country in a single day. This is the third heatwave in less than two months. Sébastien Lecornu had already convened an interministerial crisis unit several times during the previous heatwave to coordinate the actions of the various ministries.
