Peter Magyar makes his first foreign visit to Poland to revive Hungary's ties with the EU

Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar began his first official trip abroad since coming to power on Tuesday, travelling to Poland with the stated aim of redefining Hungary's relations with the European Union.

Peter Magyar began his visit to Krakow, accompanied by several ministers from his government. Discussions with Polish officials are expected to focus on strategic issues such as energy, transport, and regional cooperation in Central Europe.

This visit is seen as an important diplomatic signal as Budapest seeks to improve relations with Brussels after several years of tension under previous Hungarian governments. Hungary hopes, in particular, to unlock European funds that have been frozen due to disputes related to the rule of law and governance.

The new Hungarian leader is attempting to reposition his country on the European stage by adopting a more conciliatory tone towards European institutions and some EU partners. His government also wants to strengthen joint projects with neighboring countries in the areas of infrastructure and energy.

Poland appears as a key partner in this regional strategy. The two countries have long maintained close relations, particularly on certain European issues, even if their positions have diverged in recent years on several geopolitical matters.

According to officials close to the Hungarian government, this visit also aims to reassure investors and European partners about Budapest's willingness to stabilize its diplomatic and economic relations with the European Union.

The stakes are high for Hungary, whose economy remains dependent on European funding and trade with its EU partners. Peter Magyar is thus seeking to open a new phase in relations between Budapest and Brussels after a period marked by political tensions.
