Romania and Ukraine sign an agreement to jointly produce weapons

Romania and Ukraine have signed a declaration of intent to launch joint production of defense systems, including drones, their leaders announced Thursday after a meeting in Bucharest.

The agreement was signed by Romanian President Nicușor Dan and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. It provides for the manufacturing in Romania of military systems and capabilities developed by Ukraine.

This cooperation aims to strengthen the defense industries of both countries and improve their security capabilities in the face of regional threats.

As a member of the European Union and NATO, Romania shares approximately 650 kilometers of border with Ukraine. Some border areas, particularly along the Danube, have been affected by the war with Russia, with Russian drones occasionally penetrating Romanian airspace.

After several years of war, Ukraine claims to have developed advanced technologies in the field of drones and anti-drone systems, capable not only of supporting its own forces but also of contributing to the security of NATO countries.

This partnership is also part of a new European defence financing mechanism called the SAFE defence financing mechanism, designed to strengthen industrial and military cooperation between European countries and their partners.
