A person was taken into custody late Thursday afternoon after the discovery of a woman's mutilated body in Esbly, Seine-et-Marne, the Meaux prosecutor's office announced. At this stage, the victim's ex-partner "is not considered a suspect," the magistrate stated.
The body of the 33-year-old victim was discovered around 9 a.m. by firefighters who had responded to a fire in a ground-floor apartment of a residential building. According to the prosecutor's office, the woman was found with her throat slashed, her eviscerated, and partially burned.
An investigation into voluntary homicide
The victim, a mother of two children aged 7 and 10, lived separated from their father. The two children were taken into the care of the forensic medical units of the Grand Hôpital de l'Est-Francilien.
An investigation for voluntary homicide has been opened and entrusted to the Paris research section as well as the Meaux research brigade.
