A huge theme park dedicated to the Dragon Ball universe could be built in Courdimanche, in the Cergy-Pontoise metropolitan area. Valérie Pécresse confirmed on TF1 that the Île-de-France region had been working on this project for eighteen months, thus putting an end to several weeks of rumors.
The project would be financed by a Saudi investment company. Economic agreements potentially including this initiative could be finalized at the Élysée Palace during a meeting between Emmanuel Macron and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. However, the amounts involved and the implementation timeline have not yet been disclosed.
A park touted as a potential rival to Disneyland
Valérie Pécresse mentions a facility "on the scale of Disney" that would significantly boost the tourist appeal of the Île-de-France region. The regional president also emphasizes the investments and jobs that could be created by the arrival of an international entertainment company.
The comparison with Disneyland Paris immediately sets the bar very high. Located in Marne-la-Vallée since 1992, the resort welcomes nearly 15 million visitors each year and remains the leading tourist attraction in Europe. The global popularity of Dragon Ball could nevertheless provide the future park with a particularly large visitor base.
The former Mirapolis site under consideration
The park could be built on the former Mirapolis site in Courdimanche. Opened in 1987, this first major French amusement park closed four years later due to financial difficulties and insufficient attendance. The choice of this site would thus give a second life to a space associated with one of the sector's historical failures.
The final agreement has not yet been signed, and several elements remain under discussion. However, the project represents a major economic and cultural undertaking for the Paris region. If it comes to fruition, this Dragon Ball park could reshape the landscape of leisure tourism in France and establish a new attraction west of the capital.
