The Speaker of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, faced a tense situation this Thursday in front of the Palais Bourbon. While on her way to meet with protesting farmers, she was hit in the face by a liquid thrown by a demonstrator. The scene was filmed live.

A rapidly expanding agricultural mobilization

The protesters, who arrived with dozens of tractors, were demonstrating against several government measures deemed detrimental to their profession. Their demands included the management of the animal health crisis and the impact of international trade agreements on the agricultural sector. The protesters chanted hostile slogans and called for immediate changes to the country's agricultural policy.

Dialogue resumes despite the incident

Despite the hostility of the crowd, Yaël Braun-Pivet attempted to engage in dialogue with the farmers' representatives. She indicated on site that she would meet with several union organizations later that day to discuss their demands and find appropriate solutions.

An increasingly tense social climate in agriculture

This gathering takes place amidst growing farmer protests in various regions, including road blockades and sometimes symbolic demonstrations in front of government buildings. Agricultural unions are denouncing environmental policies and demanding better management of livestock health crises.
