This year, the prestigious Miss Universe 2025 competition will take place on November 21st in Thailand. For this 74th edition, more than 100 candidates from around the world are expected. France will be represented by Ève Gilles , who was elected Miss France 2024. This choice may seem surprising, since logically, one might have thought that Angélique Angarni-Filopon , elected Miss France 2025 on December 14th, would have represented our country. Except that's not the case. And we'll explain why…

Angélique Angarni-Filopon, a victim of her age? Actually, no...

The first reason that might come to mind for Angélique Angarni-Filopon's absence from Miss Universe 2025 concerns her age. Elected at 34, she benefited from a change in the Miss France rules. Until the beginning of 2022, you had to be over 27 to participate in Miss France, but this limit has been removed. One might have thought that the Miss Universe competition would have retained an age limit. Except that it doesn't! The age limit for participating in Miss Universe has been officially removed for the 2024 edition. As you can see, it is not Angélique Angarni-Filopon's age that prevents her from participating in Miss Universe 2025.

The real reason for Angélique Angarni-Filopon's absence from Miss Universe

The reason that prevents Angélique Angarni-Filopon from participating in Miss Universe 2025 is actually a calendar that may seem illogical and poorly executed. Each year, it is the Miss France elected in the penultimate edition who represents our country at Miss Universe.

For example, Indira Ampio , Miss France 2023, participated in Miss Universe 2024. Similarly, Diane Leyre, Miss France 2022, competed in Miss Universe 2023 , while Clémence Botino, Miss France 2020, represented France at Miss Universe 2021. Therefore, for Miss Universe 2025 , it will be Ève Gilles, Miss France 2024, who will represent France.

According to this logic, it will only be next year, in 2026, that Angélique Angarni-Filopon, Miss France 2025, will represent France at Miss Universe 2026

A lack of coherence and broken dynamics

This calendar is certainly unsettling. Since Miss France is elected every December, it would seem logical that the reigning Miss France should participate in Miss Universe, which takes place almost a year after Miss France. Angélique Angarni-Filopon (Miss France 2025) was elected on December 14, 2024, in front of millions of French viewers, while Ève Gilles (Miss France 2024) was elected on December 16, 2023. With Miss Universe 2025 taking place on November 21, 2025, it will have been almost two years since Ève Gilles was crowned in France before appearing before the Miss Universe jury . This delay may seem quite long. As every year, one Miss France replaces another, and the French tend to remember the current Miss France more than the previous year's. This timing clearly disrupts a certain dynamic…

More than 20 countries will elect their Miss Universe contestants in August and September 2025, and they will be the ones to participate in Miss Universe 2025.

Just over 20 countries are unaffected by this calendar inconsistency. Miss Nigeria, Norway, Italy, Paraguay, Slovenia, Finland, Belarus, Turkey, Uruguay, Switzerland, Colombia, Mexico, and Ireland, to name a few, will be crowned in August and September 2025. They will represent their countries a few months later.

For example, Miss Italy 2025 will be elected on August 31, 2025, and she will be the one to represent Italy on November 21 for Miss Universe 2025. A timing that seems much more coherent than for Miss France… But despite this, there is little chance that the Miss France committee and TF1 will decide to postpone the election, which for decades has taken place in December. The most logical solution would be for the reigning Miss France to participate in Miss Universe, in order to ride the wave of momentum and not break it, as is currently the case…
