Emmanuel Macron France is bolstering its economic presence in Kenya with a series of announcements exceeding one billion euros in investments. During a visit to Nairobi for the "Africa Forward" summit, the French president confirmed several major agreements between French companies and Kenyan partners, with the stated objective of strengthening French economic influence in East Africa.
Among the key projects unveiled was the strategic agreement signed by CMA CGM with the Kenyan government. The French shipping giant alone plans to invest nearly €700 million to develop port and logistics infrastructure around the port of Mombasa, the region's main maritime hub. Emmanuel Macron praised "the confidence of French companies in Kenya's potential" during a joint press conference with President William Ruto.
Kenya becomes a key partner in Paris' African strategy
Beyond the maritime sector alone, several agreements also concern energy, infrastructure, transport, and technological investments. The Élysée Palace now presents Kenya as one of France's most strategic partners on the African continent, reflecting a desire to rebalance its presence towards Anglophone countries at a time when its relations have deteriorated in several Francophone African states.
