The World Cup concludes its round of 16 this Tuesday with two matches on the schedule. At 6 p.m., Argentina faces Egypt in Atlanta. At 10 p.m., Switzerland takes on Colombia in Vancouver. Both matches will be broadcast on M6 and beIN Sports 1.
The first match pits the reigning world champions against Mohamed Salah's team. Argentina arrives after a much tougher-than-expected round of 32 match against Cape Verde, which they won 3-2 after extra time. The Argentinians had to dig deep to avoid a major upset and reach this round of 16.
On the other side, Egypt qualified on penalties against Australia after a 1-1 draw. The Pharaohs advance with the status of outsider, but not as expected victims.
Messi versus Salah, a duel of stars
This is obviously the main attraction of the day: Lionel Messi against Mohamed Salah. Messi, 39, remains the Albiceleste's main weapon and is among the competition's top scorers, tied with Mbappé and Haaland. Argentina remains the favorite. but she gave herself a scare during her last match against Cape Verde.
For Egypt, the stakes are enormous. A victory against Argentina would send them to the quarter-finals, a stage they have never reached.
Switzerland vs. Colombia to finish the round of 16
At 10 p.m., the final Round of 16 match pits Switzerland against Colombia at BC Place in Vancouver. The winner of this game will face the winner of Argentina-Egypt in the quarterfinals. The bracket will therefore be completely set at the end of this evening.
Switzerland qualified by defeating Algeria 2-0 in the previous round. Colombia comes into the tournament with a strong record. Los Cafeteros are undefeated since the start of the competition and eliminated Ghana in the previous round.
We will therefore know tonight all the quarter-finals, which will be played from Thursday, with the France-Morocco match at 22pm.
