The new miniseries "Furious" has had a particularly impressive launch on Disney+. Available since July 27, this Hulu production climbed to the top of the platform's global rankings in just 24 hours. According to data from FlixPatrol, it already holds the number one spot in 38 countries, including France, Belgium, Italy, and Australia, confirming the public's enthusiasm for psychological thrillers.

Created by Elizabeth Meriwether, the creator of the comedy "New Girl," the series marks a radical change of pace. Loosely inspired by the film The Black Widow (1987), it follows a former FBI investigator on the hunt for a serial killer who targets men accused of sexual abuse.

Emmy Rossum stars in this psychological thriller

The lead role is played by Emmy Rossum, known for her performance in the series "Shameless." She stars alongside Lola Petticrew, who portrays the mysterious criminal, as well as Scoot McNairy, Quincy Tyler Bernstine, and Jake Lacy. The series focuses on a psychological confrontation where the line between justice, revenge, and obsession becomes increasingly blurred.

Initial critical reception has been generally positive. Several specialized media outlets praise the film's polished production, the gradual build-up of tension, and a script that alternates between suspense, emotion, and dark humor. Some observers also point out that the themes explored are reminiscent of high-profile cases of sexual violence, giving the story a contemporary resonance.

A weekly broadcast to retain subscribers

Comprising eight episodes, the mini-series has so far only released its first three chapters. Disney+ has opted for a weekly release schedule to maintain subscriber interest throughout the summer, a strategy now widely adopted by streaming platforms.

Benefiting from limited competition this summer, "Furious" has emerged as one of the season's biggest hits on Disney+. If this momentum continues in the coming weeks, the series could establish itself as one of the platform's most successful original productions in 2026.
