Amazon MGM Studios has revealed new information about the television series Tomb Raider, currently in production for the Prime Video platform. S, known for her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Throneswill portray the famous adventurer Lara Croft.
The production, based on the iconic video game franchise of tomb raiderThe series is helmed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is also its creator, head writer, and executive producer. It was first announced in May 2024, with rumors surrounding Sophie Turner's casting since late last year, prior to official confirmation.

Sophie Turner has expressed her enthusiasm at the prospect of reprising this iconic role. She stated that she is "Deeply delighted to be playing Lara Croft", stating that it is an iconic role that means a lot to many fans. She also emphasized the importance of taking on the challenge of succeeding performers like Angelina Jolie et Alicia Vikander, while affirming the confidence she places in Waller-Bridge's creative vision.
The Tomb Raider series began production at the start of 2026, with a first glimpse of Sophie Turner in Lara Croft's iconic outfit, turquoise tank top, mini shorts and red glasses inspired by the original games.
Sigourney Weaver is also in the cast
Besides Sophie Turner, the already announced cast includes several renowned actors, including Sigourney Weaver in a role yet to be specified, Jason Isaacs will play Elsa Croft's uncle, Atlas DeMornay, as well as Martin Bobb-Semple, Bill Paterson and other names confirmed via recent announcements.
At this stage, no release date has been published by Amazon Prime Video, but the series is expected for a later release in 2026 or 2027.
