“Adolescence” still dominates the BAFTAs a year after Netflix

More than a year after its release on Netflix, the mini-series Adolescence continues to rack up awards. Already acclaimed at the Golden Globes and the Emmy Awards, the British drama once again made its mark at the BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday night in London, taking home four trophies and becoming the most awarded production of the ceremony.

Four new trophies for the phenomenon series

The series won the BAFTA for Best Dramatic Miniseries, while Stephen Graham, who also created the program, was named Best Actor for his performance. Two other awards rounded out the list: Owen Cooper received the award for Best Supporting Actor and Christine Tremarco for Best Supporting Actress.

According to the BBC, Owen Cooper, aged just 16, has become the youngest actor to win this award at the BAFTA TV Awards. The series had already been recognized a few weeks earlier at the BAFTA Television Craft Awards.

Released on Netflix in March 2025, Adolescence follows the journey of a 13-year-old boy accused of murdering a classmate. The series explores, among other things, the excesses of male chauvinism and "incel" culture on social media, a theme that has largely contributed to its international impact.

A work that has become a cultural and educational phenomenon

The series quickly established itself as one of the biggest television hits of 2025 thanks to its unique approach: each of the four episodes is filmed in a single take. This artistic choice, combined with a particularly tense and dark narrative, made a strong impression on critics and viewers alike.

In France, the series had even transcended mere entertainment. Last summer, Education Minister Élisabeth Borne authorized its broadcast in schools as an educational tool to address issues related to violence, social media, and masculinist discourse among young people.

With several Emmy Awards, four Golden Globes, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and these new BAFTAs, Adolescence confirms its status as a major series of recent years. At the 72nd British Academy Television Awards ceremony, other productions were also recognized, notably Code of Silence for Best Drama Series and The Studio for Best International Series.
